ACCOMPANYING DVD TO THE MAIN BOOK

The DVD is used to supplement and support the book by giving illustrations and examples of the constructive approaches by using sub-titled edited video tape recordings taken during the trialing of the Units.

The structure of DVD follows the structure of the book and is used to show specific examples of teaching and pupils responses to the work. The examples are often used to emphasis a particular point which the team wish to make and an explanation and evaluation of the visual presentation given.

Excerpts of video spoken in languages other than English have English sub-titles.

The DVD can be used with the book for individual development or by teacher training departments for initial teacher training or in-service courses or seminars.

 CONTENT OF THE DVD

 The DVD contains several kinds of material:
  1. Main text of the IIATM book comprising six chapters including the Introduction.
  2. Figures for each chapter, in the subfolders ChapterF, ChapterN, ChapterP, ChapterR, ChapterS – the figures are hyperlinked from within the main texts of the chapters.
  3. Videos for each chapter, in the subfolders ChapterF, ChapterN, ChapterP, ChapterR, ChapterS – the videos are hyperlinked from within the main texts of the chapters.
  4. Worksheets and other material for teachers, in the subfolders ChapterF, ChapterN, ChapterP, ChapterR, ChapterS – the worksheets are hyperlinked from within the main texts of the chapters.
  5. Additional texts for chapters, in the subfolders ChapterF, ChapterN, ChapterP, ChapterR, ChapterS – the texts are hyperlinked from within the main texts of the chapters.
 The figures are in jpg format which can be opened in any photoes reader or in pdf files which can be opened in Adobe Reader (which can be downloaded free at http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html).
 
The videos are in three formats.
  • Formats to be played by Real Player: The player can be downloaded free at www.real.com. The video files are *.rm. The files with subtitles are *.rt. The files which put together the video and subtitles are *.smil. If a *.smil file exists, this should be opened. If not, then a *.rm should be opened. The *.rm files can also be opened by other players, however, the video will be without subtitles. If you simply click on the hyperlink within the text, the correct file should open.
  • Formats to be played by Quick Time Player: The player can be downloaded free at http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/win.html. The video files are *.mov and *.mpeg. There are no subtitles for this type of videos.
  • Formats to be opened by Windows Media Player: *.mpg
The Book and additional texts include two types of references. The first type refers to another part of the Book and the second to the files on the DVD. Special symbols indicate that these are additional files on the DVD.

You can navigate through the book also via Bookmarks. Just click on the Bookmark section on the left.

You can either find it by browsing through the DVD or if you open the Book in an electronic version on the DVD, you can click on the hyperlink which will take you to the file in question.
